About Lynn Matthews

After graduating from the University of Virginia and pursuing a career in information technology, chronic back pain led Lynn to yoga in 1997. Yoga had such a positive impact on her body and life, she felt compelled to share this gift with others and began teaching in 2000 when she founded Yoga 4 Life.

Lynn has more than 4,000 hours of training and 9,000 hours of teaching experience. She has been educating yoga teachers since 2006 and has created comprehensive and well-respected 200-hour and 500-hour teacher training programs that she directs and teaches locally and nationally. Her desire to share her passion and knowledge with aspiring teachers and students wishing to deepen their practice and learn more about the art and science of yoga led to a partnership with Anne Arundel Community College - one of the top community colleges in the country. Her curriculum allows students to earn a Professional Certificate from the college as well as RYT200 and 500-hour status from Yoga Alliance.

Lynn’s skill and expertise in designing robust, engaging curriculum is a result of her Masters in Instructional System Development (ISD) and her more than ten years experience in the IT field doing analysis, design, development and training for a variety of organizations and as a consultant.  She also has a Masters Certificate in Instructional Technologies.

Lynn’s desire to teach the more subtle aspects of yoga to students led her to her teacher, Rod Stryker, in 2002. A Level II Certified ParaYoga® teacher, Lynn enriches her students' experience of both the art and science of yoga by weaving pranayama (breath work), meditation and chanting into her classes. She brings compassion, humor and encouragement to her teaching. Lynn also enjoys teaching Yoga Nidra, using this ancient practice to help students learn to relax, reduce stress and define the direction they want their lives to take. She has studied several Yoga Nidra protocols and is certified in the Integrative Amrit Method of Yoga Nidra.

Lynn teaches workshops nationally and organizes and leads international yoga vacations to destinations that include Sedona, Costa Rica, Spain and Maryland’s Eastern Shore. A former studio owner, Lynn sold the studio in 2009 after winning “Best Yoga Studio” for three consecutive years so that she could continue her own studies while offering even more to her students.
