About Tony Bishop

Tony is director and chief instructor at Hot Yoga BG. His gift is motivation and encouragement, a very important element in leading yoga teachers and students. Tony possesses a true love for the Lord and his fellow man, and shares that love through his life and his daily practice wherever he may be. After more than 26 years as a newspaper advertising specialist and account executive, he left the daily stress and grind of deadlines and the corporate world to realize a dream – Hot Yoga Bowling Green – with his wife Anice and daughters Kacie and Alyssa. Tony understands the stresses and demands that many of his clients face daily, as he has been there and can approach his yoga leadership from a joyous and lighthearted standpoint. One of his own primary quotes is, “Don’t take yourself too seriously.”

Known by many as “Tony B.” and “Yoga Daddy”, Tony has more than 20 years experience in various exercise trainings such as Sil lum Kung Fu, Tai Chi exercise, self defense training methods, running, various Boot Camp programs, is certified in Spinning, PowerHouse Pilates instruction, and has done yoga training with several programs before following God’s lead and making yoga his career choice.

He graduated from the highly acclaimed Sunstone Yoga Schools teacher training program of Dallas, Texas in 2006 and was Sunstone’s first 200-hour intensive graduate. He had the unique experience of taking 100 classes in 30 days, discovering that the heat IS your friend! During that time and the years following, Tony had the privilege of studying and working with Brandon Hartsell, Nicole Shaw, Helen Stutchbury, Anatomy master Derek Tabor, Jessi Kennedy, London teacher Kelly Greening, Trikaya Yoga pioneer Kris Ward, Bikram-trained instructor Ashley Sells, Jimmy Barkan-trained P.J. Brown, Bikram-trained Cassie Aitken, and has completed workshops/researched studies and works of Rolf Gates, Baron Baptiste, Tony Sanchez, Bikram Choudhury, Brooke Boon, Paul Grilley, Rodney Yee and Georg Feuerstein, and martial artists Master Royce Bunch, Master Ricky Pickens, Master Tom Pardue and Grandmaster John W. Ng – among others — and continues to read, practice, study and research the ongoing evolvement of yoga and its many facets while becoming a part of that very evolving progression. Tony strives to be a pioneer of yoga research & development. He credits yoga teacher Mary Eubank, who is a special guest instructor at HYBG, for inspiring him to further his yoga practice into teaching.

Tony is registered with Yoga Alliance, and is a teacher of Hatha yoga, a passionate teacher trainer, yoga personal trainer, and yoga coach…currently working toward 5,000 hours of yoga teaching experience. He has personally trained & mentored more than 50 new yoga teachers over the past five years. He also loves being an artist, cartoonist, musician and music lover, writer, husband and father of two – grandfather of three. His favorite quote to live by is Phillipians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.”
