About Katey Hawes
Katey Hawes, MS, PT, C-IAYT, E-RYT500, YACEP
After many years of practicing as a Physical Therapist, Katey had the fortune of experiencing a dance injury that limited her mobility for an extended period and led her to discover yoga. Though she began practicing yoga primarily as a physical outlet, she quickly learned the profound effects on emotional well-being, mental focus, and overall happiness that yoga can offer. As Katey began incorporating yoga into her daily life, it became apparent to her that the next step for her would be to become a Yoga Teacher, and that’s when her entire professional perspective began to shift. As she began to experiment integrating different yogic techniques with her Physical Therapy patients, she realized that there was much, much more to learn and to offer to her patients. She also realized that if she hoped to integrate Yoga and Therapy into her professional life in a meaningful way that she would have to take a giant leap. Midway through her Yoga Teacher Training Katey began her Yoga Therapy training, and in less than a year opened the doors at Posabilities offering Physical Therapy, Yoga, Yoga Therapy, and Thai Yoga Massage.
EDUCATION and TRAINING
Katey has a Masters of Science, Physical Therapy from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA and a Bachelors of Science, Physical Education / Sports Management from the State University of New York at Cortland College, Cortland, NY. Katey has been practicing as a physical therapist for the past 20+ years. She received her 200 hour Yoga Teacher certification from the Shala Institute of Yoga in Bridgton, ME and her Advanced Teacher of Therapeutic Yoga Certification from Integrative Yoga Therapy. She is an Experienced 500 hour Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT500), and a Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) through the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Katey has studied Thai Yoga Bodywork, and Advanced Thai Yoga Medical Massage with Shiva Shakti school of Yoga and Healing arts in Union, Maine , and the Thai Healing Arts Training Center in Westminster, Colorado.
