Laurie discovered yoga in 1998 and fell in love with the practice after her first deep savasana. Drawn to the mental clarity and body awareness and acceptance she found in the practice, Laurie began practicing asana regularly and exploring yoga philosophy, and yoga soon became an integral part of her lifestyle.
Laurie earned her 200-hour yoga teacher certification through East-West Natural Healing in 2004 and since then has regularly taught both children and adults, from beginning to advanced students, in studio and community settings.
In 2012, she completed a 5-week advanced teacher training through Absolute Yoga in Koh Samui, Thailand, during which she studied Ashtanga yoga, anatomy and physiology, yoga philosophy, Yin Yoga, and Acro Yoga with experts from around the world, to earn certification at the 500-hour level. Laurie is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (State of Missouri) and has researched and presented on the benefits of incorporating yoga techniques in mental health therapy and often offers yoga classes and programming at area social service agencies and schools. Laurie’s classes are physically strong, yet playful. She creates a safe space for students to explore mindful movement to encourage them toward self-awareness and empowerment through yoga.
